Darian Durant will be best known for being the Riders starting quarterback in the 2013 Grey Cup win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Mosaic Stadium.
My memories of Durant go back to 2008.
On the heels of the 2007 championship, the Riders had moved Kerry Joseph.
Marcus Crandell and Steven Jyles were the veterans—Durant was like a sponge learning what he could from those veterans.
Mid-season GM Eric Tillman brought in Michael Bishop pushing Durant further down the depth chart.
If there was any discouragement from Durant, he never showed it. He kept learning and working.
Just one year later he was the starter for the first of two Grey Cup appearances in 2009 and 2010.
Durant also played for six different head coaches and many more offensive coordinators.
The Riders were always competitive thanks to the consistency of Durant.
Durant will always be a Grey Cup hero here in Saskatchewan.
To me he will go down as one of the best at being a quick study and an athlete who dealt with change better than most.
