At least six people were in for a major surprise after the Western Canada Lottery Corporation announced the latest winners of a $1-million prize.
Saskatoon’s Janet Sinclair and David Herbers got their giant cheque Friday after hitting the guaranteed prize in the Feb. 10 Lotto 6/49 draw.
The couple found out the next morning while drinking coffee and checking their ticket on the lottery app.
“It came up that I had won $1 million and it’s like holy — is this real? Is this real?” Sinclair said.
Despite knowing so soon, the two kept the news secret from family — including their six adult kids.
“Nobody knows. You guys and us,” Sinclair joked with reporters at the announcement.
Sinclair and Herbers said they planned to share part of their prize with family, put a bit towards completing some home renovations and sock away some cash for when they decide to quit working.
“I started renovations on the home already, so just got to continue on,” Herbers laughed. “Not going to pay for it!”
The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven at 101-3377 8th Street in Saskatoon.
