Saskatoon police are seeing a spike in counterfeit money circulating around the city.
Police put out an alert late Wednesday morning saying 72 fake bills have been turned in since the beginning of January.
The phony bills have been found in $5, $20, $50 and $100 denominations.
Police said the counterfeits show signs of tampering along the transparent strip on each bill.
In some cases, higher-denomination bills were found containing the transparent strip from an actual $5 bill.
People and businesses were advised to check bills to ensure they’re real.
Police advised people to check to make sure the small numbers on the transparent strip match the denomination of the bill.
Real bills also contain a number of other security features, including raised ink and a frosted maple leaf window.
