Saskatoon police have launched an arson investigation into a fire that caused some $2 million in damage to a local nightclub.
Firefighters were called to the Matriarch Nightclub and Event Centre at 1201 Alberta Avenue around 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 12.
They arrived to find smoke pouring out of the building’s roof.
Eight fire trucks were on scene at the height of the blaze and crews were working in the area for some six hours.

In the wake of the fire, police reported that the blaze was not being treated as suspicious.
On Tuesday, police issued a release saying an analysis of evidence from the scene had now led them to believe the fire was deliberately set.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
