Saskatoon police had to handle a number of calls related to impaired or reckless driving over the weekend.
Late Saturday, police arrested a 17-year-old boy after his father reported him for taking his pickup truck without permission and driving drunk.
Sunday night saw officers called around 9:30 p.m. to a crash at Circle Drive and Taylor Street.
Witnesses said a 26-year-old man was speeding and driving erratically when he lost control and hit the centre meridian.
Police charged the man with impaired driving and driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08.
Man charged with stealing SUV after police chase
Police also spent a chunk of the weekend chasing down a stolen SUV.
It started with a call to police around 9 p.m. Saturday reporting a Ford Edge stolen from the 400 block of Tait Court.
Then, police got another call Sunday evening from a family member of the vehicle’s owner, reporting that the SUV had been spotted near Avenue N and 22nd Street.
Police responding to the tip found the SUV on the 100 block of Avenue S South. A brief chase came to an end when the driver of the SUV lost control and hit a snowbank.
From there, police said the man took off on foot with several officers and a police dog in pursuit.
Officers reportedly caught up and arrested him after he broke into the porch of a home.
The 30-year-old suspect is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, forcible entry and breach of probation.
