The Remai Modern art gallery is once again bringing Saskatoon international attention.
The New York Times has published an interactive feature listing the top 52 places in the world to visit in 2018, and the lone Canadian destination to make the list is Saskatoon.
The Bridge City was selected primarily because of the newly opened museum and its 8,000 pieces of artwork, according to the article.
“Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and other heavyweight 20th-century artists now have a home in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, thanks to the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan,” reads the article.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark trumpeted the article on Twitter writing, “Welcome World! Come for the art, stay for the people.”
The top 5 destinations listed are:
1. New Orleans
2. Colombia
3. Basilicata, Italy
4. Caribbean
5. Vierwaldstattersee, Switzerland
