Patience should be at the top of your packing list if travel plans take you through the Saskatoon airport this holiday season.
Around 2,700 people go through the airport on an average day, but that number jumps dramatically in the lead up to Christmas.
“We’re going to see a volume of over 4,000 passengers per day travelling through the airport. So definitely a peak period,” said Stephen Maybury, the president and CEO of Saskatoon’s airport authority Skyxe.
There are a few things for travellers to consider when trying to alleviate stress. Maybury pointed out that time management is key, and goes beyond showing up early.
“Looking at things such as checking in online. Pre-printing your own boarding pass,” he said.
“Things that somewhat have become customary, but the more that the behaviour changes and you are managing your time, the less stress you’re going to have.”
He also recommends not wrapping any holiday gifts before flying.
“We’re often asked, ‘Does that just refer to going through pre-board screening, or does that refer to checked baggage too?’ And it is our recommendation certainly on both sets,” Maybury said.
