The Saskatoon Fire Department was called out to an apartment fire early Tuesday morning.
Crews arrived at the apartment block at 26 Maxwell Crescent shortly before 4 a.m.
They found people from the building already evacuating, along with smoke seen coming out of a corner unit.
Firefighters searched the complex to make sure no one was trapped. Meanwhile, city buses were brought to the scene to provide shelter for those who had to get out of the building.
They then found and put out the fire and did a search of the suite, again checking for people and making sure the fire hadn’t spread anywhere else in the building.
The building was then ventilated to clear out smoke before people were allowed back in.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators found the fire was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials. Damages were estimated at $100,000.
