Saskatoon fire crews called to Akzo Nobel Chemicals Ltd. early Monday morning stayed there for hours to make sure everything was safe.
According to a media release, crews were called to the facility on Wanuskewin Road after security spotted a fire around 4:10 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters responding saw flames coming from a vent.
Once inside crews discovered the fire only affected the stack and a tank with fuel surfactant that it services.
Akzo Nobel staff and the Saskatoon Fire Department worked to cool the combustible liquid inside the 2,500 gallon tank that was approximately 40 per cent full when the fire broke out.
According to officials, the fire was under control and firefighters were looking for hot spots by 10:25 a.m.
