Saskatoon’s recent snowfall has sent people in steady droves to local tire shops for some last-minute winter preparations.
Brent Hoiness is the manager at Market Tire on 8th Street. He told 650 CKOM appointments booked up quickly Wednesday morning.
“We filled up within about a half hour of being open this morning,” Hoiness said.
The owner said the shop was focused almost exclusively on tire swaps, with all but one of the bays reserved specifically for the job.
“We end up working a little bit longer on a day like this,” said Hoiness, who estimated his shop would service anywhere from 35 to 45 cars on Nov. 1.
As for drivers who aren’t buying into winter tires, Hoiness recommends talking to those who make the swap every season.
“They can tell you what their traction is like in terms of stopping,” he said.
People in the city took to the 650 CKOM Facebook page to share their experience on the roads.
“Best thing we ever did was get winter tires — made such a difference,” wrote Melissa Giesbrecht Threlfall.
“For those of you that have (winter tires) but still don’t have them on — what are you waiting for?” commented Shelley Marchand.
