The Saskatoon Hilltops will chase a fourth straight Canadian Bowl title in 2017.
The Hilltops defeated the Vancouver Island Raiders 48-0 in a CJFL semi-final on Sunday afternoon at SMF Field.
Saskatoon stormed out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead thanks to touchdowns from Josh Ewanchyna and Matthew Turple.
Early in the second quarter, two Vancouver Island penalties on one play put the ball at the Raiders one-yard line. That’s when Colin Stumborg scored the first of two touchdowns with a one-yard plunge. Stumborg also scored on a 15-yard touchdown catch on a third-down gamble later in the quarter.
Ewanchyna scored his second touchdown of the game with 3:00 left in the second quarter to help the Hilltops to a 37-0 halftime lead.
Logan Fischer added a third-quarter touchdown for Saskatoon. Raiders starting quarterback Jake Laberge faced intense pressure from Saskatoon’s defense. Hilltop defenders Logan Bitz, Riley Pickett and Tom Schnitzler had two sacks each. Luke Melnyk also had an interception for the home team.
Saskatoon now visits the Windsor AKO Fratmen for the Canadian Bowl on November 11th in Windsor.
The Fratmen beat the Hamilton Hurricanes 34-20 in the Ontario Football Conference final on Sunday.
