Burton Cummings came running back to Saskatoon for a show at Dakota Dunes Casino this week, and judging by his social media comments, he left with a warm heart and a full belly.
The iconic performer, best known as the frontman for The Guess Who, came to the Bridge City as part of a solo Canadian tour.
Cummings arrived on a day off and appeared to have found a new favourite spot to grab a bite to eat. In a Facebook post, he gave a shout-out to Mano’s Restaurant and Lounge on 8th Street.
Responding to commenters on his post, Cummings wrote that he enjoyed orders of dolmades, boneless ribs, calamari, shrimp scampi, lemon chicken rice soup and a Greek salad.
Cummings also had praise for his audience following his Oct. 24 show, writing in another post that he was floored by the response to his stripped-down show, featuring just him and a piano.
In particular, he wrote he was happy the crowd was supportive when he took a bit of a risk: playing his song Runnin’ Back to Saskatoon without the benefit of a band behind him.
Cummings wrote that he didn’t recall ever trying the song solo before.
“Thought I might never be forgiven if I left town without at least attempting it,” he wrote, adding that he appreciated the audience’s help in filling out the sound by singing along.
