Marjorie Petryshyn couldn’t believe her husband’s text.
It wasn’t what the message said, but rather that he didn’t call her with the news they’d just become millionaires.
“He did phone me eventually and later I realized he was texting me because he was on the phone with the Winnipeg (lottery) office,” Marjorie said.
Dennis, meanwhile, was still making sure he actually had the matching numbers for the $1 million Lotto 6/49 guaranteed prize last Saturday.
“You scan it, you look at that ticket and it shows, ‘Congratulations, you’ve won $1 million,’ you’re kind of in disbelief,” Dennis said.
The Saskatoon couple told media Friday they took their two teenage children out to celebrate and called family and friends to let them know the news.
As for how they’ll spend the money, Marjorie said the family home needs some upgrades and soon enough there will be tuition fees.
“We have a couple teenagers at home, so that takes care of about half the money,” Marjorie joked.
“Knowing we can do this comfortably now, instead of wondering where we’re going to get the money — it’s just great.”
While the two plan to continue working, Marjorie said an early retirement could be in the books.
The lucky ticket was bought at Silverwood Convenience Store in Saskatoon.
