Riders vice-president of football operations, general manager and head coach Chris Jones deserves credit for his interaction with media Tuesday.
He tactfully gave a “no comment” to two questions many fans are asking.
On Monday, a report surfaced that a Roughrider assistant coach tried to enable a fight between players at Rider practice, and that two players were told by a team official their time with the Roughriders was coming to an end.
The relevant questions are: Did a coach try to condone a fight between players? And did someone within the organization indeed tell two players they were no longer part of the football team?
Jones didn’t answer either question, but was tactful in a five-minute news conference in doing so.
He didn’t storm off, he didn’t talk down to anyone. He didn’t in turn disrespect fans by dismissing the messengers, the media. He responded to every question.
Everyone is entitled to say “no comment.” Not all are able to do it while showing class and respect.
Chris Jones proved he has that ability.
