A 27-year-old man is facing charges that wouldn’t be out of place in the Grand Theft Auto video game after allegedly stealing three vehicles, causing two crashes and committing a robbery over the weekend.
According to Saskatoon police, officers tried to pull over a stolen black GMC Sierra truck around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The driver allegedly refused to stop and began to evade officers. The police plane tracked the truck’s movements from the air.
The suspect reportedly crashed with a Nissan Frontier at the intersection of 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue, before stealing the Nissan from the owner.
Police said the suspect had what appeared to be a firearm.
The suspect then drove the Nissan to the 1300 block of 8th Street East, where he abandoned that truck and tried to steal another.
Police said the man was trying to flee the scene in a Dodge Ram, but ended up crashing into the building.
He was taken into custody and was allegedly found carrying a pellet gun.
The 27-year-old is now facing 12 charges including armed robbery, possession of stolen property, evade police, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of court conditions.
He was expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday.
