The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is continuing to take shape at the University of Saskatchewan.
On Friday, members of the media were able to get a look at the construction progress.
Saskatoon Health Region officials and supervisors with Graham Construction demonstrated example rooms on each floor of the hospital, which included maternity care and neonatal intensive care unit suites.
According to Graham Construction, 350 workers are on-site each day to help bring the project to completion, with 70 per cent of the construction finished as of early October.
The facility is slated to provide each patient with a private room, while also creating a more streamlined emergency department for both children and adults.
A helipad is also being installed on the roof, meaning air ambulances will bring patients directly to the hospital for treatment. An elevator from the helipad will lead to the emergency department.

Friday’s tour came after Premier Brad Wall was given a private walkthrough of the facility.
“When you’re here … you start to visualize exactly what this province will have built for itself and for its kids,” Wall said. “It’s going to be a wonderful facility.”
The province is providing $235.5 million in funding for the hospital’s construction, while Saskatchewan businessman Jim Pattison has provided an additional $75 million.
Constructed in a three-piece triangle, plans involve an open-air area in the middle of the building, which includes a playground partially sheltered from the elements.
The triangular gap is currently being filled by a massive crane, which is used to transport materials from the exterior of the hospital to the interior without disrupting operations at the rest of the university.
A Graham Construction official said when the building is nearly complete, an even-larger crane located in Alberta will have to be brought in to remove the construction apparatus.
Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is slated to open in late 2019.
