Not a lot went well for the Saskatoon Blades in a 6-2 drubbing by Swift Current Friday night.
Tyler Steenbergen had four goals as part of a five-point night for the Broncos. His first three came unanswered in the second period for a natural hat-trick.
Saskatoon was down 5-0 heading into the third period.
“You give those guys time and space they will kill you, and they did,” said Blades head coach Dean Brockman.
Braylon Shmyr and Brad Goethals had the goals for the Blades. Shymr tipped in a Jackson Caller point shot with his foot while Goethals finished off a pretty no look pass from Gage Ramsay.
“I didn’t see a lot of quit in any of them which is a positive as we are right back at it tomorrow.”
The game had a bit of sentimental value for one former Blade. Logan Flodell made 22 saves for the win in his first start at SaskTel Centre since being traded ahead of opening night.
Joel Grzybowski made 18 saves in the loss, his first career WHL start.
“We gotta figure it out fast and find our game right away,” said captain Evan Fiala. “We had some good little spurts so we will watch some video and go back at it tomorrow.”
Perhaps some new surroundings will be beneficial for the 1-3-0-0 Blades. They face the Pats in Regina Saturday night.
