Prior to Sunday’s win over Winnipeg, I asked Game Day With Wray co-hosts Quinn Magnuson and Dale Isaac who the most unappreciated player was on the Riders’ starting offence.
I excluded offensive lineman because — let’s face it — they are always unappreciated.
Without delay, both said Cameron Marshall.
Marshall is a solid ball carrier, a good route runner and his pass blocking is also something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
When he arrived in Saskatchewan more than a year ago, head coach Chris Jones was clear his backs would have to be able to block first and foremost.
Marshall is doing exactly what Jones has asked. On Saturday he didn’t catch one pass, had a quiet 56 yards in rushing and helped keep Kevin Glenn upright. Marshall deserves more than honourable mention for Glenn’s 386 yards in passing in the Labour Day Classic.
While this is more of a hockey saying than a football saying, I’ll use it anyway: “Those are the guys you win with.”
