A traffic stop in Saskatoon’s West Industrial neighbourhood led to an hours long standoff and arrest.
Around 6:30 a.m. Monday police stopped a vehicle on the 1700 block of 11th Street West, near Avenue R.
While conducting the traffic stop officers noticed a 42-year-old man in a doorway nearby who is known to police.
He was wanted for escaping lawful custody, illegal cigarettes, and breaching conditions.
When officers tried to speak to him he barricaded himself inside the trailer and refused to talk.
The crisis negotiation team and the canine unit were brought in which led the street to close for about two hours.
Just before 10 a.m. police went inside the home and the canine unit found the suspect hiding in a storage closet.
The 42-year was arrested and led back to a waiting cruiser without incident.
Traffic restrictions in the area are over.
