Classic replica warplanes took over the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum and Learning Center over the weekend as the Vimy Ridge 100th anniversary, Birth of A Nation Tour made a stop in Saskatoon.
“We made sure they would stop here because they blew an engine and we lent them one,” said museum President Dorrin Wallace, who was a pilot for more than 40 years.
“We turned this event into an awareness campaign for our museum, which isn’t opened yet, but very close to getting all the approvals we need.”
Wallace said Saskatchewan’s first aviation museum is set to officially open around Christmas.
“We’re just in the process of buying the Hangar,” he said.
Warplane fans were able to check out the aircraft, learn First and Second World War history, and enjoy a BBQ.
Planes will take off from Saskatoon’s Bay 5 on Hangar Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The tour started in Vimy, France on April 9, 2017 with a ceremonial fly-in and has made more than 30 stops in Canada.
