A scary wake-up call for a 20-year-old student from Latin America Friday morning when a man with a hammer came into her bedroom.
Police were called around 5:30 a.m. to a home in the 3200 block of McGill Street, in the College Park neighbourhood.
“He started to choke me while holding me down and tried to rape me,” the engineering student from the University of Saskatchewan told 650 CKOM.
She asked that her name not be used for safety reasons.
“I managed to get the hammer away from him and hit him in the forehead with the hammer before he took off,” she said.
In a media release, police said the suspect was described as an Indigenous man between 18 and 20-years-old with dark, shaggy hair.
He is believed to have been wearing a black t-shirt, skinny jeans and either black or red shoes.
Her 22-year-old roommate from Ukraine said the man got into the house when she went into the backyard to get her cat.
“I think he was watching the door and managed to avoid me, but the weird thing was he didn’t take anything,” she said.
According to the two women, they have only lived at the house since the middle of July, but now they plan to move.
“We don’t feel safe here anymore,” they said.
