A 17-year-old boy is facing charges after police say officers were hit with bear mace late Sunday night.
Police were looking for a suspected carjacker when officers approached the boy near the intersection of 21st Street and Avenue P South around 11 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the boy pulled a can of bear mace and sprayed at the officers before running off.
A police dog reportedly tracked the boy to a house on the 200 block of Avenue P South, where officers found him on the roof after he’d apparently been driven out by the homeowner.
In a media release, police reported the boy was behaving erratically and refusing to get off the roof when he sprayed himself with his own bear spray.
The boy was arrested shortly afterwards. Police reported they then discovered the boy was not the suspect they had originally been looking for.
The boy was charged with assault, break-and-enter, possessing a dangerous weapon and breaching court-ordered conditions.
