A 12-year-old boy from Saskatoon is facing charges in connection with a sexual assault of a girl under the age of 10.
Saskatoon police said the incident took place on July 16. Officers were called to a home in the city’s southeast, where parents reported their daughter may have been assaulted.
Further investigation by members of the Sex Crime Unit found the 12-year-old boy encountered the girl while playing outside, where the alleged sexual assault took place.
Officers used a description from the girl to find the suspect nearby.
The two did not know each other.
Police are currently working with the victim’s family and providing support.
The accused made his second appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court last Friday.
The boy is currently under supervised care with court imposed conditions.
