Hot temperatures didn’t stop more than 500 people from going to the big white tent for the opening weekend of Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan.
Richard III drew a near sell-out crowd of 250 people Saturday night, while the bluegrass style of Twelfth Night sold out Friday night.
“A lot of the actors really managed to amp everything up a little more for opening night,” said Artistic Producer Will Brooks, after the show on Saturday. “It’s a great opening weekend for us.”
Liz Quinlan has been coming to the performances since they began 33 years ago south of 25th street close to the Bessborough.
“We sat on the ground, it wasn’t nearly as elaborate as it is now,” she said. “The actors, set, costumes were all professionally done, which really stood out for me.”
The crowd made makeshift fans out of their programs to keep themselves cool as it got hot and humid under the tent top.
The summer favourite holds it’s last show Aug. 20, 2017.
