Some passengers left stranded following the demise of STC now have another way of getting around.
Rider Express Transportation launches its new service Thursday, running a route between Saskatoon and Regina in 15-seat vans.
The company’s owner said there’s been a lot of interest in the lead up to their launch.
“We are getting phone calls from people and Facebook, they are messaging us,” said Owner Firat Uray.
Additional routes will bring passengers to and from Saskatoon and Regina to Yorkton, Estevan and Swift Current.
Uray suspects his main customers will be students and the elderly, at least at the outset.
Tim Horton’s parking lots will be used for passenger pick up and drop off.
“We are trying to keep our price lower than STC,” Uray said.
“These are more efficient vans and less expensive. So we are trying to share with our passengers with lower rates.”
Uray said his company plans to deploy more buses, but haven’t determined when additional service will begin.
When the buses are purchased, they’ll still need to go through provincial inspections before they hit the road.
