Saskatoon Blades defenseman Evan Fiala is getting a chance to impress NHL scouts.
The towering blueliner has been invited to the Detroit Red Wings Development Camp.
“I’ve been working hard for this opportunity. I just want to leave it all out there and see what happens,” Fiala said in a statement by the Blades.
For the native of Clavet, Sask., this will be a second NHL development camp invite. Fiala attended one for the Florida Panthers in 2015.
“I am excited and a little nervous too,” he said. “I went to Florida’s camp two years ago and I never received a callback, it made me think I may never get another chance,”
The Blades acquired Fiala in a swap with the Spokane Chiefs in December of 2016. He went on to score 2 goals and add 8 assists in 38 games for Saskatoon.
Camp begins Friday, July 7 in Traverse City, Michigan.
