It’s been years in the making and now after two test events, new Mosaic Stadium is set to host the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the first time.
The Riders are playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in preseason action on Saturday.
Paula Kohl with Evraz Place said fans at the test events noticed an issue when it came to crowds forming at entrances and long lines at concession stands.
Kohl said the south concourse will be open at this game, so it should alleviate some of the congestion. The south concourse was closed during the concert due to the stage placement.
When asked if they may implement assigned gates for entrance in the future, Kohl said they will need to see how things look after a few sellouts.
“We’ll have some learnings definitely after this event on Saturday to see again how the traffic flow comes in.”
She also said there will be volunteers available to help point people in the direction of other concessions.
“Let people know that there are bars further down and know if they choose to, that they can continue to walk and find another location to get what they are looking for,” Kohl said.
She also said not all concessions will be open due to ongoing construction. The stadium is expected to be 100 per cent complete by July 1.
On-street parking
Those with a purchased parking pass will be able to park at Evraz Place and other designated areas.
Streets around the stadium will be available to residents in the area.
Regina police have said they may ask for proof of residence for people trying to get down the streets.
Faisel Kalim with the City of Regina said there are areas where people can find parking.
“There’s plenty of parking downtown, there’s parking in the warehouse district, there’s a shuttle downtown,” Kalim said.
He also mentioned transit is the best way for fans to make their way down to the stadium.
