Warm weather attracts hundreds to children's festival

Lions, tigers and bears were some of the many designs kids wanted at the 2017 PotashCorp Children’s Festival face painting station Sunday.

“I really fell in love with it when I saw the kids really being inspired,” said 16-year-old Jasmine Chamberlin, who’s been volunteering as a face painter since she was 13.

“I really like it when boys get pink stuff and girls get dinosaurs.”

Some of the other activities include a fossil find, Lego builds and building bridges project.

The event, which started Saturday, moved locations to Kinsmen Park this year, after being at Kiwanis Park for a number of years.

“We like all the extra room for kids and families to move around,” said marketing director, Mandy Pravda. “It’s a little less congestion and we’re loving it.”

Pravda said the attendance has been great all weekend, but they don’t have an exact number yet.

“Definitely better than last year,” she said. “The weather has been really beautiful and it’s nice to not have to carry around an umbrella like years past.”

The festival continues until Tuesday and a pass is $10.
