If you go out in downtown Saskatoon it’s hard to miss the rainbow flag flying over Divas Nightclub on 3rd Avenue.
It’s the second largest Pride flag in the world.
Saskatoon Pride Co-Chair Danny Papadatos told 650 CKOM it’s a signal that we’re a welcoming city.
“It just makes everybody speak up a little bit more,” he said. “It puts a little bit more air in our chests, I guess when we walk down the street.”
This year marks the 25th annual Pride Festival in Saskatoon and the first time the mayor will participate in the parade.
“It just creates that excitement and that sense of belonging and it’s a very visual reminder of how far the city has come,” Papadatos said.
Pride events run throughout the month of June in Saskatoon.
On Saturday the city unveiled rainbow crosswalk near City Hall.
Pride crosswalks have been installed on 23rd @ 3rd and 4th, just blocks from the big Pride flag over Divas. Can you tell June is Pride? #yxe pic.twitter.com/7gTHni6GSk
