A parking lot at Midtown Plaza was the site of the world’s largest road hockey tournament when Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! took to Saskatoon over the May long weekend.
The ball hockey tournament featured 420 people with 51 teams, including one inspired by singer Carly Rae Jepsen, the Call Me Maybe’s from Edmonton.
“When they put Saskatoon in, we wanted to sign up right away,” said captain Noah Melnychuk.
It’s the teams fifth year travelling to take part.
“It supports kids and grows the sport of ball hockey, so we love it,” Melnychuk said.
Play On! has adult divisions, youth divisions, and even a little guy division for children seven and under.
The tournament has been around for 14 seasons in Canada and it’s the first time it’s been back in Saskatoon in three years.
Results in the adult division:
Elite- Dirt Danglers
All stars – moves like jagr
Muckers – Oskayak
Contenders – Marions Mennonites
Play On! moves to Winnipeg next May 27, 2017.
