Two greats will have their names forever etched in Saskatchewan Roughrider history.
Wes Cates and Roger Brandvold have been announced as the 2017 Plaza of Honour inductees.
Cates was the running back from 2007 to 2011, appearing in three Grey Cups, including the 2007 win.
As well, former chairman Roger Brandvold, will have his name added alongside the 125 other members.
Brandvold was an influential voice in the advancement and construction of the new stadium.
“Being part of the Roughriders was so important to my life and it gave me back so much, to really reach this level, it is really difficult for me to describe at this point in time, it is a tremendous honour at the end of the day,” Brandvold said.
Cates was unable to attend the announcement.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders also announced a new stone memorial in recognition of the Plaza of Honour to be erected at the southeast corner of new Mosaic Stadium, on the corner of Elphinstone Street.
Along with that, making any grammar nerd happy, the Roughriders have confirmed from now on honour will be spelled with a U. Previously it had been spelled the American: honor.
This year’s Plaza of Honour will be a reception rather than a dinner, with tiered ticketing prices being offered.
The event is set for Sept. 22.
