More than a dozen firefighters battled large flames in a farmer’s field outside Saskatoon Tuesday afternoon.
Crews got a report of a car fire shortly before 3 p.m. When engines arrived on scene, the flames had spread to nearby vegetation and more personnel were sent.
The blaze impacted the area of Merrill School Road and Carmart Road.
A person who works at Buck’s Auto Parts said the fire was roughly a “football field away.” The business was not in jeopardy from the flames.
The vast majority of a farm field appeared to have been scorched by the flames, which encroached onto a nearby range road.
Farmers watching at the scene told 650 CKOM a grass fire burned the same field last spring.
The Saskatoon Fire Department was able to get the blaze under control by about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
No injuries were reported and there was no word on what might have caused the fire.
