Cash stolen from Scouts headed to Nova Scotia jamboree

A Scout troop is calling foul after their cash box was stolen from a fundraising dinner held at the Circle Drive Alliance Church.

The 46 East Saskatoon Scout Group held the dinner at the church on April 1.

Troop scouter James Melby said it was a busy event. With a lot of work to do for their guests, he said the cash box was briefly left unattended and then, it was gone.

 “The kids were pretty upset over the whole thing because they worked hard for that money.” Troop Scouter James Melby said.

The troop is raising money  to send 14 members to Nova Scotia for the Canadian Scout Jamboree, an event held only once every four years.
 
“I couldn’t believe someone would steal from kids,” Melby said.

He estimated there was at least $500 in the box when it was taken.
 
“It was very disheartening, I told the troop hopefully (whoever stole the box) used the money to survive that night.”
 
The troop is now doing a bottle drive and a burger night to make up the funds.
 
Saskatoon police told 650 CKOM without video surveillance they may not be able to do much.
 
Melby confirmed the church has no security cameras in their building.
