Saskatoon Public Schools is adjusting their schedules for the 2017-2018 school year, eliminating early dismissal Thursdays.
Currently, elementary students are let out about 15 minutes early, while high school students get out about an hour early to allow for staff meetings and professional development.
That development will now be shifted to August, before children attend classes.
To compensate for the lost break time, high school students will get an additional two P.D. days throughout the year. The new breaks will align with existing days off for elementary school children.
Parents with kids in the Catholic school system won’t have to adjust their schedules though. Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools said there are no changes planned to its Thursday schedules.
Both school boards will start the 2017-18 school year after Labour Day, with students in both boards to begin classes Sept. 5.
