Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
The Regina Bypass Project continues to remain on schedule and is ahead in some phases.
An update on the project was given Tuesday and officials said it is 40 per cent completed.
“I think it really shows the collaboration between the teams to keep a project of this size on time and on budget,” Minister of Highways and Infrastructure David Marit said.
Marit said having a good winter last year helped keep the project on schedule, but this winter could pose more of a problem.
“Unfortunately in this situation in this province, we’re at the whim of Mother Nature and weather so the team will do what they have to do to work with those conditions.”
The White City overpass is expected to be opened in October 2017, with the Balgonie overpass opening shortly after.
Pilot Butte will also see an overpass sooner than expected.
“We were able to announce recently that the Pilot Butte interchange which was scheduled for October 2019 has been accelerated forward to October 2018,” said Alisdair Dickinson, project director.
Since construction of the project began , there have been no lost time incidents.
“We’ve had a few minor medical aids but for a project of this size and the amount of work that we’re doing every month, the amount of people on it, we’re very, very happy with the safety performance of the team here,” Dickinson said.
The entire project is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2019.
