Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
Danny Maciocia showed the cards of the Montreal Alouettes and you really have to question why anyone would want the job at the top of football operations there.
Maciocia, who has ran the University of Montreal to prominence, isn’t going to take a job in which he has almost no authority over crucial decisions.
Could he hire his own coach? No.
How about a GM? Not that either.
So nobody should wonder why Maciocia turned them down. No one should take that job without autonomy.
And we look back on the heat Jim Popp took in his final couple of seasons, you have to start to wonder how much was dictated to him from the top and how much of that was Popp working on his own.
Popp’s credibility rises the more and more you hear of the dysfunction the Alouettes are running under through meddling from ownership.
But someone will take that job. The likelihood of success is extremely low as long as the owners keep believing they know how to run football operations.
