Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
The weather outside was beginning to get a bit frightful, but it didn’t put a damper on people’s holiday spirit at city hall.
The City of Regina held its “Light up the Lights” event and around 1,000 people braved the cold to see the lights and other events happening at city hall.
Hot chocolate was flowing as families made their way inside for activities such as face painting and colouring. Carollers were singing Christmas classics as people made their way through the hall. Mayor Michael Fougere, along with a helper, pressed the button to turn on city hall’s Christmas lights.
The event served as one of the ways people can kick-off the holiday season.
“It means time with family and getting out see things in the city,” said Megan McCormick.
“My favourite part about Christmas is being with my family and seeing my kid smile,” Monica Field said.
While Fougere began the party by turning on the lights, it didn’t fully get underway until Santa Claus made an appearance.
Children lined up for the chance to tell old Saint Nick what they wanted for Christmas.
A new bicycle, dolls and a new Xbox were some of the items kids asked for this year.
