What an NCAA rule change might mean for junior hockey in Sask.

Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
A community-based charity that provides help for those in need is hoping to move a few blocks from its current location in Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood.
Carmichael Outreach has applied to rezone a lot at the corner of 12th Avenue and St. John Street, which would allow it to move its operations into the building on that site. The charity is currently located at 1925 Osler St. near Victoria Avenue.
Tyler Gray, public relations officer with Carmichael Outreach, said their current building is structurally failing.
“We have some significant challenges with building maintenance and trying to make sure that we’re maintaining a place that is in good repair and is treating people well.”
Gray added the building is not big enough for everything they need to do.
“This new building would give us the opportunity to make sure that we’re able to offer all of the things that we think are important for the folks in our community that are suffering the experiences of poverty and homelessness.”
An open house is taking place on Wednesday where residents living in the area can express their opinions about the possible move.
Gray said they have been in contact with residents and the feedback has been a ‘mixed bag’ with some expressing concerns and others in favour.
The open house will be at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1909 Ottawa St. from 5-8 p.m.
City of Regina staff, along with Carmichael Outreach representatives, will be on hand.
City Council is expected to vote on the zoning change in early 2017.
