A teenage boy wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant was found in Regina Sunday night – but he didn’t go easily.
Regina police were called to the 700 block of Hayworth Crescent North around 9:55 p.m. Sunday night, where the teen was alleged to be.
When officers arrived to the location, a vehicle pulled away. Police went after the vehicle on foot, as it was spinning its tires and struggling to gain traction on the ice.
Police said the vehicle lost control, hitting the curb at Dolan Drive and Battel Street, before reversing. Officers then broke the windows of the driver side and attempted to take the key from the ignition.
The vehicle came to a stop and the passengers were removed.
The driver, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested and charged. Police said he had a small amount of marijuana on him. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The teen was charged with fleeing a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a scheduled substance, failure to comply and escaping lawful custody.
He appeared in Provincial Youth Court in Regina Monday morning.
