Icy roads in Regina and the southeastern part of Saskatchewan are causing headaches for drivers – including those in allegedly stolen cars.
Regina police said icy roads helped officers stop a stolen vehicle around 12:15 a.m. Monday.
The vehicle, which was reported stolen, was spotted on the 2600 block of 7th Avenue. Police said officers attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their emergency lights. But the vehicle attempted to drive away. It was unable to due to ice, according to police.
After the driver – a man – was taken from the car, police said the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away. The man ran away as the passenger was removed from the vehicle.
A second woman in the car was also arrested.
Thirty-year-old Kristen Cara Nahnepowisk of Regina and 27-year-old Roxanne Genaille Of Pelly, Sask., were charged with resisting a police officer and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Both were subjects of a number of arrest warrants.
Police are still searching for the man who fled the scene.
