Previously, WHL players were declared ineligible to play NCAA hockey in the U.S.
It’s the first weekend of December and many families will be heading to tree farms or lots to get their Christmas tree.
“Everybody is happy when they come cut down their tree,” said Cora Greer, Cora Greer who’s the co-owner of the Mason family tree farm in Kenaston S.K.
“They’re always so excited to get their tree and watching the kids jump up and down is just joyful.”
Just last weekend over 120 trees got sold, but Greer expects to pass that this weekend.
“We will easily sell 100 each day,” she said early on Saturday morning, already 12 families were at the lot before 10 a.m.
Saskatchewan produces around 15,000 to 20,000 Christmas trees a year.
“For some families, they like a nice open tree, but some like the real tight shape, so it varies from family to family,” Greer said.
Greer said 2016 was a great year for tree farming because of all the moisture we had in the province.
“In some areas, we had a little too much, but it’s better than it being dry like in previous years,” she said.
Greer said not all families let kids pick out the trees.
“Often times the little guys want a little tree,” she joked.
“That’s why Mom or Dad have to encourage them to find something a little bigger.
It takes 9 to 15 years to grow a Christmas tree from seed.
