A bellhop who’s been at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel since 1969 is the best tourism employee in Canada.
“I’m just overwhelmed,” said Dan Cardinal, who won the Canadian Tourism Employee of the Year Award on Wednesday in Gatineau Quebec. “It still hasn’t set in quite yet, but I’m still getting butterflies in the old stomach.”
Cardinal was 18-years-old when he started with the maintenance crew.
From Premiers, and Prime Ministers, he has met high-profile public figure and celebrities from all different backgrounds through the years.
“When you see people at their best and at their worst, you try to make things better for them,” he said. “When they leave through the doors and they had a great experience, that’s just gold in itself.”
Cardinal said he was going to retire in the new year, but he now wants to work three more years to reach the milestone of 50 years in the building.
