Donald Trump and the NRA must be happy.
Another traffic incident was resolved with a gun. And a death. Everybody should have a gun, don’t you know, just in case your car gets cut off on the freeway. If you live in the United States you can take out your handgun and shoot the offender, yell at him, then shoot him again.
That’s what happened in Terrytown, Louisiana. Joe McKnight, a 28-year-old black man who was the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ starting tailback for three of the CFL team’s final four games, was shot and killed by a 54-year-old white man, evidently after a traffic dispute. Only the shooter had a gun. Now a family, friends and a football team are among the mourners.
President-elect Trump and the National Rifle Association advocate the notion that everyone should have a gun for their own protection. Trump wants to delete the law that makes schools into no-gun zones. They believe more guns would make more people safe.
Putting a gun in McKnight’s hand likely wouldn’t have saved him. Taking a gun away from that idiot, that certainly wouldn’t have saved McKnight.
