Should we question Marcel Desjardins in Ottawa?
Many are after he said again, based on the contract structure of his quarterbacks for 2017, Trevor Harris will be the starter and Henry Burris will be the backup
Of course, if Burris retires or requests to be moved – which is rumoured to be part of his contract – Desjardins doesn’t have to make that decision.
But based on the premise that both return, as tough as the decision is, Trevor Harris needs to be given control. That is how you do sustained success in this league. When you have an aging quarterback you need to know when the best before date is and if Burris had one tattooed on himself it likely reads Nov. 27, 2016.
The best GMs have to read the tea leaves and make those tough decisions. Chris Jones is doing the same in Saskatchewan, but there is a big difference – he doesn’t have the next guy…yet.
Desjardins does. It’s time to move on, despite Burris’ MVP performance in the Grey Cup.
