The RCMP has confirmed its file on the controversial GTH land deal.
A spokesperson won’t say it is an investigation — only that they are “looking into the matter.”
The RCMP won’t say when they received the referral.
A police investigation first came to light at the Public Accounts Committee Monday when provincial auditor Judy Ferguson revealed her office would not start a forensic audit until the RCMP file was closed.
“If our office was asked to do a forensic audit, I think we would probably pause on that at this point in time because we understand there has been a police investigation underway and the scope of the investigation does include the activities related to GTH’s acquisition of land from the private sector,” Ferguson explained.
“So our office would pause in terms of doing that, in that it would result in a duplication of use of public resources to do that work.”
It isn’t clear when the RCMP will conclude “looking into” the GTH land sale.
