It was an eventful Saturday afternoon on Highland Way in Regina’s Churchill Downs neighbourhood when a man wanted on warrants was arrested.
Police said it all started around 3 p.m., when officers found a vehicle they believed belonged to Kelly Ryan Powell, 29. They got a warrant to search a home on Highland Way and made contact with the people inside the house.
According to police, they had the home contained and officers were trying to talk the people out of the house.
As people began to leave, police said Powell tried to run from the home but was soon caught and arrested.
Powell was wanted on warrants and had a breach of recognizance charge added to the list.
Powell is no stranger to the wrong side of the law. In 2010 he was sentenced for a break-in, assaulting his wife, and evading police.
He reportedly pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in 2011 – the court case revealed that he’d sent himself about $40,000 worth of cocaine through the mail. At the same time, Powell also pleaded guilty to charges of evading police and driving while prohibited.
In this most recent incident Regina police couldn’t say what the warrants were for, but a 29-year-old man from Regina named Kelly Powell was arrested in southern Ontario in August in an ATM robbery at a gas station. Powell along with six others men from Regina were arrested and were described as being part of the Outlaw Motorcycle Club.
