Have you received a speeding ticket via email recently?
Don’t pay it. It’s a scam.
The traffic violation scam is an email that tells the recipient they’ve been caught speeding, or another infraction. The email includes a link to pay the ticket immediately.
Police said do not click the link, but delete the email immediately.
On Thursday, Regina police received more than 25 phone calls reporting the scam. They said none of the callers had been victims.
They’re reminding people a ticket would never be handed down in an email without an address, license plate number or specific information about the alleged offence.
People who receive sketchy looking emails should check the sender’s email address. Police and government do not use Hotmail accounts to send out information.
