Police discharged a Taser while arresting a man in Regina yesterday.
Officers were called to the 1600 block of Toronto Street around 4 p.m., where a man was apparently causing a disturbance at a home. Regina Police Service said officers found a man inside the home holding a large knife in each hand.
Officers instructed the man to drop the knives, but when he refused, an officer deployed his Taser. The man was shot with a Taser a second time after standing up, still holding the knives.
The man was taken into custody and to the hospital with injuries from the knives.
Darwin Cote, 48, was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer while threatening to use a weapon. He also faces one charge of possessing illegal drugs.
He appeared in court in Regina Friday morning.
Regina Police Service notify the public whenever a Taser is used on a person.
