Saskatoon bus riders to see service disruptions

After job action by the Saskatoon transit union caused problems for weekend bus routes, the city is warning riders to be ready for additional service disruptions Monday afternoon.

The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has been directing members to refuse overtime. While Saskatoon Transit said it’s made every attempt to deal with the impact this could have, the city had to operate with limited resources Monday morning.

This has resulted in the following for Nov. 14:

• Route 4 – Route 4 leaving the U of S at 2:20 p.m. may experience heavy ridership.
• Route 6 – Route 6 may experience heavy ridership at 3:21 p.m.
• Route 22 – Route 22 leaving the Downtown Terminal at 3:29 p.m. travelling to Confederation Mall then travelling to Montgomery at 3:59 p.m. has been cancelled. All other buses on this route are expected to maintain regular service from the Downtown Terminal. 

Transit workers took job action Saturday morning as contract talks between the two sides remains stalled over a pension agreement.
 
Workers are refusing to work overtime which affected several buses over the weekend.
 
Saskatoon Transit workers have been without a contract since 2012 and have been in a legal position to strike since Sept. 16.
 
The city said it will issue alerts about service disruptions as the information is made available.
