Christmas in mind for craft-shoppers in Regina

There was no snow on the ground yet on Saturday, but some people in Regina were already thinking of Christmas.

Hundreds of people flocked to Evraz Place for the yearly Our Best to You Art and Craft Sale, where hundreds of vendors sold handmade clothes, food, jewelry, and even leather ottomans shaped like animals.

This was Craig Hilts’ eighth year as an exhibitor. Hilts is a photographer out of Swift Current with Prairie Fire Photography – he specializes in storm photos.

He said he gets lots of people looking for Christmas gifts at the show.

“This is the premier place to come for those great, unique Christmas gifts, that’s why I love coming out to these shows is everyone’s looking out for that gift for mom or dad or a family member – it’s something unique and different,” said Hilts.

Laurie Decker is a candle-maker with Stone Valley Candle Company. She makes candles which realistically look and smell like food, drinks, and coffees.

Decker said this is around the time when people will start thinking about Christmas.

“The odd one will come in and decide ‘yes, this is for Christmas’, or they’ll say ‘well, we’ll come back and see what we can find.'”

Shoppers seemed torn. Some said they were looking for Christmas gifts, while others, like one woman named Cathy said that’s not the only thing on her list.

“Half and half – we’re kind of looking for us too,” she explained.

The craft show ended on Saturday evening.
